The Eddie Dixon Centre (EDC) has closed.
Paddington Uniting Church’s work with the homeless and disadvantaged through the Eddie Dixon Centre will not be continuing in 2014. After 30 years of providing food and welfare support this service will close its doors on December 20.
The service has been supporting the homeless, unemployed and people living in boarding houses and has assisted many to find housing and receive health and welfare support. It has been a place where isolated older people on a pension can acquire a nutritious meal.
Funded by Paddington Markets, this service has provided support to many over the years. Due to reduced income, the Church regrets that it is now unable to fund this community service. This decision was not taken lightly or without great pain.
It is hoped in the future that if funds increase the Church will be able to develop new services to those experiencing disadvantage in the community.
