Paddington Uniting Church is delighted to announce that Bishop Gene Robinson has accepted our invitation to travel to Sydney to promote his message of God’s inclusive love for all.
Bishop Robinson will meet with political, religious and community leaders, preach at a major ecumenical service of worship and give a public lecture here at Paddington.
Bishop Robinson is an American retired bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Robinson was elected bishop coadjutor in 2003 and succeeded as diocesan bishop in March 2004.
Robinson is widely known for being the first priest in an openly gay relationship to be consecrated a bishop in a major Christian denomination believing in the historic episcopate.
He now works at the Center for American Progress, a progressive research and policy organization, on issues of faith and gay rights.
Robinson, whose most recent book, God Believes in Love: Straight Talk About Gay Marriage, was published in September, is an outspoken advocate of LGBT rights, a fight he likens to the US civil rights movement, and same sex marriage within the church and in wider society.
